Design Approach
Sometimes the brief is simple but the path to approval and construction isn't immediately clear. Determined clients make all the difference! For this project, our clients commissioned us in 2009, but approvals and construction came in 2017. Our design created a dedicated home office for him (lower level) and a light-filled art studio for her (upper level) on a small footprint. This approach, an early 2-story accessory building in West Berkeley, preserved cherished garden space between the new building and the couple's existing home.
