Design Approach
The project introduces new modular classroom facilities for Girls Inc, a non-profit service organization for girls at risk, into an existing city park. A wood and metal arbor situated between the modular buildings anchors the new structures within the park while reinforcing a new landscaped courtyard. This new outdoor space mediates between the education center and park, provides the center with additional gathering space and hi-lights an existing park entrance. An existing city-owned recreation building is also given a fresh look inside and out with bold colors and accents, drawing inspiration from the signature 'red' of the Girls Inc. logo.
