Design Approach

Adeline Works was a cost-effective adaptive re-use of an existing warehouse as a multi-tenant commercial building. The project seeks to both invigorate and harmonize with the West Oakland neighborhood. Mezzanines overlooking open plan spaces maximize the height, access to fresh air
and natural light within the building, which is on a long a mid-block through lot. A versatile space
facing Adeline Street can be demised for more than one business, while PWA’s headquarters face
towards Magnolia Street. The bold red façade blends industrial details and announces a new use
to the surrounding area.
