Design Approach

This project reimagined 6 parcels of land to create a new youth community campus, including the renovation of an existing building and the construction of a new building with outdoor spaces.
Formerly a sea of asphalt anchored by a non-descript 1970’s county administration building, the spaces in the existing building were difficult to find or entirely cut off from the exterior. A new interior layout clusters spaces to house socially aligned community partners, additional meeting space and laboratories for innovation and entrepreneurship around a central “collaboration space”.

Welcoming, comfortable and flexible to use, each space in the new construction building is characterized by interiors bathed in natural light, that are easily navigable and connected to the outdoors. The organization's vision for new program elements were brought to life, including a community kitchen that can double as a catering kitchen for events, multi-purpose performance space, conference rooms, music rooms, therapy rooms, and ample storage for each.

Overhead doors at each building blur the interior with the exterior courtyard envisioned as a town square, which can open to the street for large community events. Intimately scaled outdoor spaces include a lush meditation space and a kitchen garden.
